Client: Please Touch Museum

This collection of patterns was created as part of the Please Touch Museum Artist in Residence program. The series was inspired by traditional cut paper traditions from around the world, and each pattern highlights cut paper techniques and visual themes from a specific culture. The exhibition was featured during DesignPhiladelphia 2012

Four cultures were explored: Mexico, Poland, Japan and China (grouped by similar cut paper traditions), and India. Each was researched for their cut paper crafts and other cultural traditions to create this collection.

Following extensive research, each pattern was designed and cut by hand using a variety of papers and techniques, then photographed or scanned to create the repeat. Except for the Polish flowers, each design was executed in multiple color ways and presented as large format gicleé prints and small-scale models.

The museum created rubber-stamps with the designs and kids were invited to use them in different compositions and to color them.
